The Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Annual Native Film Series Showcases three films that feature diverse Native voices, perspectives, and stories. All were directed, written, produced, and/or star Native Americans. Artist and Southwest School of Art professor Joe Harjo (Muscogee) curated the series and will lead a discussion after each screening. Free Admission Winter in the Blood Based on James Welch’s 1974 novel, this film follows Virgil First Raise as he wakes up in a ditch to find that his wife has fled with his beloved rifle. Alongside the mysterious “Airplane Man,” he sets out on a feverish journey to find her and is forced to confront his tragic past along the way.
