The Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Annual Native Film Series Showcases three films that feature diverse Native voices, perspectives, and stories. All were directed, written, produced, and/or star Native Americans. Artist and Southwest School of Art professor Joe Harjo (Muscogee) curated the series and will lead a discussion after each screening. Free Admission Reel Injun Filmmaker Neil Diamond examines the evolving depiction of Native Americans, tracing Hollywood’s treatment of Indians from silent film to contemporary cinema. Through clips and interviews with historians, filmmakers, and actors, Diamond explores how these portrayals have influenced the way the world understands-and misunderstands-Native peoples.
