Painting Fundamentals: Exploring Tonal Relationships
May 22-24, 2017 (9am-4pm) This three-day workshop is for the beginning oil painter and those wishing to revisit this most fundamental aspect of painting. In painting, the terms “tone” and “value” refer to the lightness or darkness of a color. Most painters would agree, well-related “values” are more important than color in painting. In this class, students will work in monochrome (a single dark color plus white). Working from simple still life arrangements, students will learn how to compare and relate the values of the motif. This class will also address the topics of drawing and the use of tools and materials. Visit website
