ART LEAGUE WANTS PEOPLE TO CHILL OUT With the temperature rising, the Wimberley Valley Art League wants people to take a chill. They are launching, for the first time, their annual show and sale in the middle of summer. Typically the show is in November, but the artists have decided to mix things up a bit. Called The Cool Art Show and Sale, it will be held at the Wimberley Community Center on July 7 through 9. An opening reception on Friday from 5 to 7pm will highlight the cool theme by having an ice carving demonstration, in which Franko the Ice Man will convert a block of ice into the event’s mascot, Pablo Penguin. Cold libations and frozen treats will be available. Free shave ice will also be served throughout the weekend. The Wimberley Valley Art League now has over 200 members. The largest percentage come from Wimberley, but many are from Austin, a few from San Antonio and all points in-between. With so many artists, there is a large diversity of art styles and media. Visitors can expect to see over 100 paintings, lots of jewelry, pottery, photography, sculpture and more. Each artist will have a mini-show of their best work for sale. To make The Cool Art Show more fun, all artists will display a work of art that represents coolness to them. The public is invited to vote on the coolest of the cool. Daily raffles for visitors and an interactive game will give visitors a chance to relax and relish the cool even more. The event is free. Show hours and more details are on the website: wimberleyartleague.org or 512.826.4286.
